Coventry is situated in the county of West Midlands in England and is the 9th-largest city in England. Coventry was the world's first twin city when it formed a twinning relationship with Stalingrad in Russia during the second world war. Coventry Cathedral is relatively new and was built after the destruction of the fourteenth-century cathedral church of Saint Michael by the German Luftwaffe on 14 November 1940.
Coventry is an ancient city that grew from a settlement of the Bronze age near the city centre. By the 14th century, Coventry was an important centre for the cloth trade and became one of the largest and most important cities in England. Coventry suffered severe bomb damage during the second world war and especially during a massive Luftwaffe air raid known as the "Coventry Blitz" in November 1940.
