Once you have forwarded the port(s) you are intending to use for your streaming camera and programmed your firewall and anti-virus software to allow access to these ports you are ready to stream from your webcam. This site provides detailed help for many different types of router. Check out http://www.portforward.com You can stream to an embedded windows media player on your website directly using Window Media Encoder available free from Microsoft . This will encode the video stream from your Webcam or other video device and stream it off site....when asked, by the remote player, using the port you set up for access in the router. See "making your camera visible on the internet" if you have not already done this. You can then access your video stream remotely by typing in the address so media player can start and view the stream or by embedding a media player on your web page so it automatically starts the stream when the page is accessed. Registered users can access free code examples to incorporate into your own website. To access media encoder from the internet using media player you could for example do this: If your IP address is 82.636.251.50 and the port you forwarded to the machine with media encoder on was 5555, you would simply type in mms://82.636.251.5:5555 in your internet browser and media player would automatically start and access the stream. The new Camsecure ViewStream Streaming software package uses its own windows media type encoder and comes with comprehensive instructions on how to stream video to your site. Windows Media Encoder Version 9 Run the encoder, select 'Broadcast a live event', Click OK Select the devices (webcams etc) you want to use in the next screen, click Next Select 'Pull from the encoder', click Next Enter port number you have already forwarded e.g. 5555, click Next Keep the first two settings as 'Multiple bit rates video' Scroll down in the 'Bit rate' box to the one marked '148kbps, 15, 320x240', uncheck any others and check this one, press Next 'Archive a copy...' leave unchecked, click Next Select 'No,...', click Next Give your stream some info if you want, this will be displayed with your stream - if not just leave blank, click Next Click Finish Give the encoder a few seconds to sort itself out, then click 'Properties' Click the 'Compression' Tab, Click 'Edit...' Under 'Target Bit Rates', select your 148Kbps stream and click 'Edit' In 'Audio Format', pull down "10kbps, 16Khz, Mono CBR" Change 'Frame rate' to 20fps Change 'Video Bit rate' to 48K (including the 'K'), click OK Go to the File menu, and select 'Save As' - call the file a name (e.g. broadcast.wme) and save it to your Desktop. In the future you can launch the encoder with this settings file by double-clicking it, so you do not have to set it up every single time. Click 'Start Encoding' to start your broadcast. NOTE: Start your broadcast means the encoder is encoding the signal but it is not sending anything and will not untill it has been contacted by the recipient e.g. your web page with embedded player. |
