Barnoon in St Ives has quite a lot of historical people and events associated with it for such a small area. Alfred Wallis was a Cornish fisherman and artist who sailed on schooners across the North Atlantic between Penzance and Newfoundland. He is buried in Barnoon cemetery, overlooking St Ives' Porthmeor beach and the Tate St Ives gallery.
The SS Alba was a Panamanian-registered ship owned by Burger B. that sank off St Ives in Cornwall on 31 January 1938.
The ship was searching for shelter from a storm and she ran aground on the three brothers rocks after mistaking the lights of Porthmeor for the lights of St Ives. Some of the crew are buried in Barnoon and there is a commemorative plaque in Barnoon cemetery depicting this sad event.
