Inverness is the UK's northernmost city, but it only became a city in 2001. Inverness is situated at the mouth of the River Ness which divides the city in two and is very much the central feature of the city and a great place for a walk, which is one of the loveliest in Scotland.

Inverness has a very busy railway station and airport with regular flights to most other UK destinations, including Edinburgh, London and Manchester. Inverness has some excellent shopping and amenities including the Victorian Market in the Old Town.
