The Island Sailing Club was formed in 1889 and was one of the first clubs to admit ladies as members. In 1930 the club started the Round the Island Race which is still a regular event to this day.
Cowes really is The Placefor sailing and water activities on the Isle Of Wight, and Cowes Week is the oldest and biggest sailing regatta in the world and has been held since the founding of the Royal Yacht Squadron in 1815.

Cowes is a lovely and exciting place at any time of the year with sporting and cultural events going on all year round.

Cowes is stretched across the mouth of the river Medina estuary, where the famous chain ferry carries people and vehicles across the River Medina from West to East cowes saving a long round trip by road.
