Staunton Harold Reservoir is a large reservoir which is managed by Severn Trent Water. Most of the water is within Derbyshire with a small part of the southern shore in Leicestershire.
This reservoir was constructed in 1964 and while none of the local villages were lost in the construction, two farms and a Calke Mill were submerged under 25 metres of water.
Staunton Harold is a bristling natural habitat for much bird and plant life and there is lots to do there with a sailing club, visitor centre and adventure playground all in close proximity.
